Seahawks’ DL Michael Bennett finally gets his long-awaited deal. After signing a four-year $28.5M deal in 2014, Bennett would later go on to argue with the Seahawks’ front office for another payday just one season removed from the extension.

My thoughts? It’s technically a wasteful move for any team to pay a defensive NFL player $15+ million for a player entering his 30’s, especially with one year left on his current deal.

However, I would consider this a “thank you” nod with the acknowledgment that the Seahawks will likely not get the entire return on their investment. Bennett outplayed the value of his current deal and remains an invaluable part of their pass rush.

With 10 sacks last season and four sacks this season despite injuries, Bennett is a rare talent that is able to line up as a both a defensive tackle and end.
