Arizona Cardinals (5–8–1) vs. Seattle Seahawks (9–4–1)

The Arizona Cardinals brace for another physical matchup against the NFC West Champion Seattle Seahawks, who are now vying for a first-round bye.

Key Factors

Offensive Line Play — The offensive line play has been absolutely horrible for both teams all season. Carson Palmer has already been sacked 13 more times (38) than last season which probably coincides with their losing record. Conversely, Russell Wilson had just four passing touchdowns and eight interceptions prior to last week’s victory against the Rams. The last time these two teams played, they ended in a tie on Sunday Night Football; it wouldn’t surprise me to see another grinder given how fierce both their pass rushes are versus opposing lackluster protection.

The All-Purpose Club — Cardinals’ David Johnson has produced 14 straight 100-yard all-purpose games and leads to league in touchdowns and receptions among running backs. There’s no doubt he’s a special talent — but is he good enough to join elite company? With just two games left, Johnson needs exactly 200 more receiving yards to become just the third running in NFL history with 1,000 rushing and 1,000 receiving yards in one season. Per ESPN Stats and Info. , Johnson has run 477 routes this season which is more Vikings’ Stefon Diggs and Dolphins’ Jarvis Landry.

Coverage Issues — The Cardinals just gave up 48 points to the Saints last week at home which is discerning when you consider they’re supposed to be a top defense. The injuries keep piling on for their secondary. Marcus Cooper is doubtful to play, Deone Buccanon and Tyvonn Branch are on injured reserved…now Tyrann Mathieu just got placed on IR today. Outside of Patrick Peterson, this is extremely worrisome for the Cardinals as it seems like the Seahawks’ offense is starting to catch stride. Seahawks’ Tyler Lockett is coming off a career game with seven receptions for 130 yards and one touchdown.

Overall Thoughts

The Cardinals would love to spoil the Seahawks chances of securing a first-round bye in the playoffs. Obviously, both clubs have taken different paths since their last matchup in Week 6 — but that doesn’t mean this game won’t be any less intense. I’m calling the Cardinals to pull off the upset and give the Seahawks a “parting gift” as the season comes to an end. As long as the Cardinals’ pass rush can get to Wilson, I think the Palmer will do just enough to win the game.
