Week 17 Arizona Cardinals vs. Los Angeles Rams
Arizona Cardinals (6–8–1) vs. Los Angeles Rams (4–11)
Cardinals’ Carson Palmer visits his former college stadium while Rams’ rookie Jared Goff looks to end the season on a high note.
Key Factors
Jared Goff — Carson Palmer was once the top pick and struggled early on in his career before taking flight; the same could be said of Jared Goff. While Goff remains winless in six starts, I’ll be watching to see what adjustments he makes to end the season. The Cardinals have been dealing with several injuries in the secondary so there could be some opportunity. Rams’ Kenny Britt is having a career season with 68 catches for 1,002 receiving yards.
David Johnson — I’m sure the Cardinals will be dialing his number early and often for the record books. Tied with Barry Sanders, David Johnson needs one more game for at least 100 total offensive yards to become the first player to have 100+ total yards in every game this season. Johnson also needs about 150 receiving yards to become the third 1,000 yard rush/1,000 yard receiving running back in NFL history.
Cardinals’ Pass Rushing — In his first season as a Cardinal, former Patriots pass rusher Chandler Jones has lived up to the hype with 9.5 sacks. If Jones were to get another half sack, the Cardinals would have their first duo of pass rushers — Markus Golden has 14 sacks — with double-digit sacks in franchise history. The Rams have struggled all season long in pass protection, with LT Greg Robinson being labeled a bust.
Overall Thoughts
While the Rams are at home, I think the Cardinals are looking to end the season with a statement. I would expect Bruce Arians to run up the score and push for David Johnson to go in the record books. This could get ugly quick.
