Week 17 Seattle Seahawks vs. San Francisco 49ers
Seattle Seahawks (9–5–1) vs. San Francisco 49ers (2–13)
The Seattle Seahawks need one more win against the San Francisco 49ers in order to secure a first-round bye in the playoffs.
Key Factors
Doug Baldwin — The Seahawks just lost Tyler Lockett for the season with a broken leg which means more responsibility will be put on Doug Baldwin. Baldwin has historically had the 49ers’ number, with eight catches for 164 yards in their earlier season matchup. The 49ers just placed their best cornerback, Jimmie Ward, on injured reserved which means either Dontae Johnson or Rashard Robinson is slated matchup against Baldwin in the slot.
Aaron Lynch — The 49ers have lacked a consistent pass rush all season. Aaron Lynch had big expectations heading into the season but was suspended the first four games. He never quite recovered as he dealt with weight issues and injuries as the season progressed. The Seahawks continue to struggle in pass protection at both tackle spots…it would be nice to see Lynch end the season on a good note rushing the quarterback.
Kaepernick vs. Seahawks’ Front Seven — Down 14 points, Colin Kaepernick led the 49ers to victory last week against the Rams which included a game-winning run. Kaepernick has certainly been inconsistent but if he could attack the Seahawks’ front seven with his legs, that would be a great way to end the season. The quarterback battle between Kaepernick and Wilson no longer has the same lust like previous seasons but fans should appreciate the moment — this might be his last game in a 49ers uniform
Overall Thoughts
The Seahawks are playing for favorable seeding in the playoffs and the 49ers would love no better than to spoil their division rival. While the 49ers have played well in recent weeks, the Seahawks’ pass rush will do enough to take care of this one.
