Suffer For Your Passion

Passion — latin. Suffering

And I do mean suffer. I read recently that the word ‘passion’ originated from the Latin word for suffering — Patientia.

Makes sense if you think about it doesn’t it.

We each have something that we are deeply passionate about but we often suffer to achieve (or spend much time doing) it.

By far the vast majority of us spend our entire lives trying to put meaning and a shape to it.

We spend all our waking lives trying to define it which is a paradox because it’s our driving passion.

Surely it should come naturally?

Well I have two ‘tools’ that I use and I believe we need if we are to achieve such understanding and any kind of reward in our lifetimes.

  1. Burn your bridges — permanently discarding everything that’s held you hostage — it’s your only chance of lighting up the road ahead.
  2. As you advance you need to drown the people you used to be — allowing that better version to be born.

Good luck
