A SHORT TRAVEL STORY
Party in Montreal!
And when you win at the casino, it becomes more fun
In 1999, I found myself in Montreal for two weeks. My firm had bought a company there. I was sent from Texas for product training.
Montreal is a fun city with a vibrant history, food, and entertainment culture.
On Friday, my travel buddies and I went to the famous Casino de Montreal, an enormous, fun-filled complex.
We did all the usual things: played some slots, had a few drinks, then settled down at a Caribbean Stud table.
Within 30 minutes, I won $750 Canadian. With the money, I decided it was time to party, my treat!
We started with a big steak dinner. Then, headed over to a famous Montreal adult club, for which we took an oath to keep our fun there secret. An oath that is as strong today as it was then. We finished our adventure with espresso and scones at a local coffee shop before heading back to the hotel around 3 a.m.
Our night out only came to $250 Canadian for the three of us. But there was no lack of fun.
The goal was to avoid converting the Canadian cash into American dollars when we returned to the U.S. The exchange rate was $1 CAD to ~$0.67 USD, plus service charges.
We just needed to spend it.
We had six days and $500 left, plus our meal per diems from our expense accounts.
What a dilemma!
