Although my ancestry does not include Scottish or Indian blood, I enjoy the music of both countries. That's why I got excited when I stumbled across an Indian singer known as the first female bagpiper in India.

Her name is Archy J. She plays the bagpipes, produces videos, and performs. Her music is distributed on most music streaming channels.

Many people have a love-or-hate relationship with bagpipes.

In their worst form, bagpipes have been described as a cat stuck in a bag and squeezed. In their best description, bagpipes are a historical instrument carrying Scotland's history and traditions.

Most of us have heard them perform at parades, festivals, concerts, and funerals.

Bagpipes produce a haunting but complex sound, with most songs beginning with a single bass note played. This signals that something more melodic will start shortly while setting a harmonic bass tone that lingers through a song.

Depending on the occasion, a single piper or a large group performs. Both are intriguing and somewhat addictive to listen to.
