June 2024 marks my fourth anniversary writing on Medium.com, and what a roller coaster ride it has been.

I found the website by mistake, but the attraction was immediate. Within an hour, I became a member, and within a few days, I published my first story.

It was almost love at first site, but I’ve made it a point not to fall in love with anything on the internet. Let’s call the attraction a mutual solution that helped me focus, tune, and build my writing business.

I have been writing for over twenty years. I published a book in 2002, picked up a few freelance jobs, helped a lot of friends with their resumes, and started on my second book, but I had never considered becoming part of a community like Medium.

I always considered my writing a small hobby while managing a high-tech career in cybersecurity sales, telecommunications, and networking, which entailed a lot of travel.

My world of work ended in 2020 due to COVID-19. I got laid off due to the pandemic, declared retirement, activated my Social Security and Medicare, and then went back to work ninety days later.
