Hello Folks! How are you all doing?
Today is the first of May and in many parts of the world Labour Day is celebrated.
It is a holiday that has been in vogue for more than 130 years, established following the events surrounding the so-called Haymarket riot.
A sad page of history that occurred in the spring of 1886 when the forces of law and order opened fire on employees of a farm machinery factory in Chicago. The workers had called a strike in protest because the law instituting the eight-hour workday limit was not being respected.
On that fateful 3rd of May 1886, two people lost their lives and, to avenge this bloodshed, some anarchists immediately called a protest rally that was to take place the next day at Haymarket Square.
This event too soon degenerated into a bloody clash far worse than the previous one in which there were deaths and injuries.
