Twister/ Con Air — ’90s Action Double Feature
Theme: Terribly awesome ’90s ensemble action blockbusters!
Welcome back to Double Feature, where I pair two thematically linked (don’t think about it too much) titles for a movie lover’s Saturday night in.
Be sure to check out my previous piece on Kevin Costner films The Untouchables and Mr. Brooks here.
Nearly 30 years later, Hollywood has graced us with a sequel to the Michael Crichton-scripted, Jan de Bont-directed weather disaster flick Twister, out this weekend. And I can think of no better film to pair the 1996 disaster-piece with, than another, yet-to-be-sequelized minor-guilty-pleasure-action-classic from around the same time, Con Air.
Both of these swing hard, and are supremely memorable ensemble actioners that wowed back then, but, for my money, play even better today.
Let’s get to the films!
Twister (1996, Dir. Jan de Bont)
Let’s get one thing out of the way. The musical score and soundtrack for 1996’s Twister is transcendental.
