So the second Apple conference is here. This time it brings to the table the bigger siblings of the iPhone, the two iPads. The iPad and the iPad Mini. Both of them have gone through significant changes this year, But along with that come along new Macbook Pro’s and the latest OSX Mavericks. Let’s see what Apple has revolutionised upon this year shall we?

PS: This article doesn’t have the Mavericks, that will be covered in a separate article, along with Macbooks.

Wondering what’s with the iPad Air? Well Apple renamed the bigger sibling of the iPad to iPad Air owing to it’s thinner and lighter structure. Well does the Air manage to blow us away? Let’s see.

Typical Apple fashion it’s lighter and thinner. How much you ask? Well for the inquisitive people out there, it’s 28% lighter and 20% slimmer. It adopts the design form from the iPhone 5S and the iPad Mini. There is a coloured aluminum back with chamfered edges. It is powered by the same A7 chip with the M7 co-processor as the iPhone 5S so expect blazing fast web browsing and amazing graphics performance. It has the same 9.7" screen but the bezels are reduced by a huge huge extent. (See the picture below).

It will be available in white — silver and black — space gray. It will launch with the latest iOS 7 preinstalled. So basically it’s the best of the mobile software and iPad hardware Apple has to offer. Prices are as follows 16GB — $499, 32GB — $599, 64GB — $699 and 128GB — $799 for the Wi-Fi only models and 16GB — $629,32GB — $729,64GB — $829 and 128GB — $929 for the Wi-Fi + Cellular model.

The new iPad Mini borrows a lot from it’s bigger brother but in that same dual-shaded aluminum shell. Its not thinner or smaller but has a lot more now. It borrows the same retina resolution of the iPad Air but on its smaller 7"display. It also has the new A7 chip and packs the 5MP iSight Camera. Basically its an iPad Air with a 7"display. It will be available in the same colour combinations of black — space gray and white — silver. Priced at 16GB — $399, 32GB — $499, 64GB — $599 and 128GB — $699 for the Wi-Fi only and 16GB — $529, 32GB — $629, 64GB — $729 and 128GB — $829 for the Wi-Fi + Cellular model.

Branded as the Small Wonder by Apple the iPad Mini is definitely a major boost to the previous generation, but the iPad Air not so much. The Air only gets a new name, a design change and a few internals and nothing more. Touch ID was exempted as well. So is it justified to pay 100$ just for that partial size increase? Let us know by voting in the poll below. Thanks for reading this iDevice part of the Apple Conference. Mavericks is coming as soon as I complete testing it.
