CES is upon us. This time, at a rather important stage. 2014 is upon us and with things like flexible displays and next generation innovation coming through, a good CES lineup would guarantee any company the strongest foothold for a few years atleast.

Well CES aka. Consumer Electronics Show started off with a big bang. Nvidia has announced and demoed something which will totally change the way mobile graphics go. They have brought to the table their newest warrior, they have got the Nvidia K1. Successor to the Tegra 4, which could not make into mainstream devices last year, the K1 plans to revolutionising everything.

The K1 has 192 GPU cores in comparison to the now feeble 72 in the Tegra 4. On board is also Nvidia’s Keplar architecture which is used in their desktop chips. Well you might wonder what good might that do? Quoting Nvidia, “Tegra K1 is based on DX11. Its GPU has more horsepower than Xbox 360 and PS3.

If you compared Tegra K1 to another platform, compare it to an Apple A7. K1 is nearly three-times its performance. When you consider its next-gen graphics capability we’re even further ahead.

What I’d really like to go over with you. It’s the first 192-core processor. It comes in two versions, quad-core A15, another version is based on our Denver CPU. It’s a full custom CPU, it’s based on ARM V8 64 bit, very high performance single and double threaded. Tegra K1 will come with dual-core Denver.”

Another thing along with this, know about those jaw dropping Infinity Blade 3 visuals due to Unreal Engine 3? Well good news, Unreal Engine 4 is coming to K1. And as they have stated, console quality graphics are there. Three times the A7, the most powerful chip on the market currently? Yes please. Well greater than PS3 and Xbox 360, I just can’t stop drooling. K1 is awaited.

And yes one more thing, wondering why this wasn’t named the Tegra 5? Well the official statement, “This is the first GPU that took a vast jump from the previous generation. It’s inappropriate to call it Tegra 5 because it’s not linear. It’s called K1 because it’s based on Kepler architecture, our most successful GPU architecture.”
