Orbotix, the company behind that fun, glowing Sphero project announced something at CES, which I couldn’t help but notice. It announced the successor to the Sphero 2.0, the Sphero 2B. It takes a completely new approach to how we knew Sphero, it is not spherical but cylindrical. It was so cool, that I decided I would start the new segment of my blog with this.

So now that picture probably summarises whatever has changed since the Sphero’s sphere design formulation. This time, it is cylindrical, it has wheels. But what it also has infrared technology. Well multiplayer has been the core focus. So now, we can play capture the flag with a bot, with a player and also the new infrared technology allows us to play laser tag. The new Sphero doesn’t roll, it tumbles, just giving it more leverage and allowing you to perform crazier stunts with sicker speeds. You can change tires as well. So have flat tires for speed or rugged ones for multi-terrain races. Set up your own skatepark and perform some stunts you always wanted to, but couldn’t because of the limitations of your old Sphero. What’s even better is that it is completely programable. It has a polycarbonate battery and like always, works with both Android and iOS.
