Do you still enjoy to fling birds which have a never-ending rage and their enemies change series after series. Starting out as traditional pig smashing business, they have reached a stage where they are trying to mimic the Star-Wars era along with it’s high tech weapons. Although each game offers substantial new gameplay and powers, the common phenomenon remains the same. Smash your enemies with an ever-ending wave of angry birds. Today Rovio has proudly announced a new version, which in my opinion brings the most humungous amount of changes. Telepods? 30 different characters? All-new powers? Yes please! Star Wars II is here to impress, but will the flying birds attract us as potential customers again. Force us to spend hours on this casual game all over again? Well read on to find out.

The basic phenomenon of the game remains the same. All throughout the series, be it Angry Birds Rio or Angry Birds Space (although this came with gravitational physics ) or even the latest release Star Wars, the principle has been the same, now mundane in my opinion. Back in 2009, smartphone gaming was in it’s infancy. When angry birds was announced, people lost their heads as they had never seen anything like it before! A slingshot which as projectiles launched birds on various wood and ice structures killing green innocent looking pigs was fun. People would love the powers of the birds and play this game for hours endlessly trying hard to take down their own high scores.

This was one of the major reasons Angry Birds has gotten so far. In the first two games : The original Angry Birds and Seasons, people flocked to it because of it’s innovative and idiosyncratic (peculiar) approach to gaming. The game won various laurels for Rovio. Touted as the Best Handheld Games and the Best Casual game of the Year along with being one of the most downloaded apps across all the platforms consistently is simply breath-taking. Currently all Angry Birds titles have amassed over 1.7 Billion downloads across all platforms. Yes that’s right! 1,700,000,000 downloads! This in my opinion is because of the idea, but moreover the perfect execution by Rovio.

But over the last year, Rovio has been constantly churning out titles as they have realised the potential that this brand name has obtained. Space and Star Wars along with Rio was a big let down in terms of what it brought to the table in my opinion. Some would argue that the gravity physics and a couple of new characters and powers are adequate and that the classic flinging game is the best. But well I differ on that opinion and so will many others. Rovio knows it has a huge fan base now. That people will constantly keep buying their games. This has been happening ever since. With the release of every new title, that same title is pushed to the top of the leaderboards the same day, it amasses millions of downloads, which in turn brings millions of dollars for Rovio! They are basically acting like Apple (no offence). People keep spending money over minor upgrades even though the upgrade is not frugal. Or even Coke for instance. People love it so much, they don’t mind buying it over and over again. Angry Birds even have their own cartoon series, their own merchandise which is quite profitable, their own theme park as well as an animated movie due to come in 2016! That’s the brand they have become.

Now to some optimism. The newly announced Star Wars II is what the original Star Wars should have been. It bumps the number of characters from a mere single digits to 30. This time they have adopted the Skylanders and Disney Infinity’s formula. We can buy real life Angry Bird Hasbro toys which can then be used in the game (so cool!). These known as Telepods can be placed in the camera of the handheld and new characters and powers will be unlocked. It will be available across all app stores on September 19. Can’t wait right? Me too. The first real change in the principle of Angry Birds, that too one that is all futuristic.

So are you excited about the new Flying Animals which are always Angry? Or you have just given up on them? What do you think of the franchise so far? Whatever the case may be I feel Rovio has enough number of fans for a couple more million sellers. Do let us know your views by commenting below. Follow us on twitter and like our page on Facebook.
