JUST Egg on the Menu for Sodexo’s ‘Better Tomorrow’ Initiative
Few realize it, but the foodservice industry is nearly equal in size to the food retail sector, and as customers’ tastes change, the largest global players in the space are taking note. Putting plant-based items on menus has been a cornerstone of that movement and Sodexo is among those leading the way. That’s why we’re thrilled to announce JUST Egg’s availability to their higher education, healthcare and corporate sites across the United States.
JUST Egg was the exact solution that Sodexo Senior Director of Culinary Development Chef Rob Morasco had been searching for. “Consumers are looking for plant-based items that mimic the foods that they are either not eating any longer or trying to eat less of — for whatever reason — be it wellness, animal welfare or environmental sustainability. JUST Egg products are nearly indistinguishable from their ‘real’ counterparts — they taste like eggs, cook like eggs and can bake like eggs,” he said. Going further, he told Forbes that “there’s really nothing else like it.”
Sodexo’s sustainable menu innovation initiative has resulted in hundreds of new plant-based recipes and we expect that one of the most promising channels for JUST Egg will be Sodexo’s 500 college and university locations in North America, which serve a total of 1.6 million students. While plant-based eating is increasing across all demographics, young people have been the fastest to embrace healthier more sustainable foods.
Our partnership builds on Sodexo’s broader commitment to sourcing responsibly, encouraging plant-based meals and reducing food waste — a pillar of the company’s Better Tomorrow 2025 strategy to reduce their carbon emissions 34% by 2025.
