More than half of Americans say they’ve found the perfect holiday dish that’s equal parts healthy, tasty and good for the planet — and 56 percent say that dish will be plant-based, according to a new survey conducted by market research firm OnePoll. The poll of 2,000 Americans was commissioned by Eat Just in conjunction with the launch of JUST Egg’s holiday campaign that shows how easy it is to sneak in some delicious plant-based eggs while visiting with family members this season.

Eating more plant-based (32%), eating healthier (42%) and purchasing more sustainably sourced food (35%) were among the ways respondents said they’ll be changing their holiday food traditions and 60% said they want to carry on healthier or plant-based eating habits in 2022.

About half of those asked said they would be making plant-based versions of traditional holiday dishes, underscoring the ease with which innovative products like JUST Egg can be a simple swap in a range of recipes without sacrificing flavor, quality or functionality.

When analyzed by age, the results show more millennials (76%) than their parental generation (56%) plan to eat healthier during the holidays, with 71% of millennials preparing to make plant-based versions of traditional dishes versus 28% of baby boomers.

Interestingly, both generations are slightly more likely to make plant-based alternatives this year compared to last year. A survey by Eat Just and OnePoll from 2020 found 67% of millennials and 24% of baby boomers planned to cook plant-based versions of traditional dishes.

What’s more, consumers increasingly understand that the foods we choose impact the planet (66%) and 64% believe the way food is currently produced or manufactured has negative consequences, according to the findings. Climate change (40%), water and air pollution (46%) and loss of wildlife (41%) and natural habitats (40%) were among the most frequently cited issues. While millennials acknowledged these repercussions to a greater degree than boomers, a majority of those polled from both age groups expressed concern.

The survey also revealed what Americans believe is the most stressful part of the holidays: 46% cited cooking for those with picky palettes or different diets. This beat out other options in the list, including avoiding political talk (43%) and trying to eat healthy (42%). It also ranked higher than traveling (35%) and getting the right gift (32%). Millennials were found to be much more stressed about accommodating those with dietary differences with 64% of millennials choosing this option, compared to 28% of boomers.

Our new holiday ad humorously tackles the generational divide that often emerges when families gather this time of year, and like previous ads, is narrated by comedian and JUST Egg mega-fan J.B. Smoove. The latest spot, “Grandma,” will appear nationally on connected TV platforms like Hulu as well as on digital video services like YouTube to help illustrate just how good our eggs are, without anyone really noticing a difference.

You can also get in on the holiday fun for the chance to win an enviable stocking stuffer from JUST Egg. Winners will receive a Caraway ceramic fry pan; a custom embroidered Hedley & Bennett apron; JUST Egg spatula and enamel pins; a $100 Whole Foods gift card; and hardcover copy of “The Korean Vegan Cookbook” by Joanne Lee Molinaro.
