Sure, things blur a bit
looking back now,

knowing that the surface was one thing
and below it was another thing

and with no real indication that the two
even knew of each other, even compared notes

the underbelly stuff, dark, hurtful, lurking,
the on top stuff, sticky sweet almost perfect…
