Today is a day when
you don’t read the comments.

You go online, there’s news, there’s stories being shared,
and you don’t, please don’t, you know better than to -

it’s too late, you did it —
you’ve read some, saw words,

felt feelings; witnessed hate, ignorance — rampant — raging -
seemingly unstoppable, increasingly

illogical, just mean — just spewing to spew,
Who has this much time? Who has this little mind?

Today is a day — children are protesting/being killed/being harmed;
war is starting/pending/continuing, ecosystems burning down, boiling up -

today is a day that you cannot let yourself — whatever you do —
step back, close the screen — you know what you will see, please -

Today is a day
you do not read the comments.
