Just One Giant Lab (JOGL), a community-powered problem solving platform, announces new features
Just One Giant Lab (JOGL) is developing a virtual laboratory where users can collaborate and innovate in order to solve problems that address the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As our Co-founder Leo Blondel described it in a recent interview for the Creative Commons: “We want to be a central hub for open science and innovation. On the social side, we aim to help humanity fix its most urgent and important problems using open science, responsible innovation, and continuous learning. To that end, we partner with academic labs, companies, startups, foundations, NGOs, and public services to create participatory research programs for understanding and solving health, environmental, social, and humanitarian issues”
“On the technical side, we create and utilize a series of open-source applications to support the research and innovation activities generated by our users. To this aim, we have created a platform where users can launch their projects and collaborate openly with others to solve pressing needs,” he says.
JOGL’s most popular program has been the OpenCovid19 Initiative, powered by a global community of 4000+ volunteers and experts who create solutions to better prevent, detect, and treat COVID-19, and to help forecast the pandemic’s evolution, with support from the AXA Research Fund.
We recently launched two new programs with our partners:
- The iGEM 2020 program, which will foster collaboration between teams that are competing in the International Genetically Engineered Machine competition, one of the most developed open science communities in the world (7000 participants every year), using biotechnology to solve problems.
- JEDI — 1 billion molecules challenge, which aims to screen a billion possible molecular compounds that can block the development and/or spreading of the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19.
On July 8th, we celebrated one year of open science with JOGL and announced new features that will improve our users’ experience! Check out our video below and join us at https://jogl.io/
