Diwali is the festival of lights — best celebrated with friends and family. The celebration of Diwali can’t be complete without sweets, lights, parties, family gatherings and other revelries. Visiting friends and family with boxes full of sweets and all the shopping before and during the festival — we know, some of these sales are just too hard to resist — it all makes Diwali a truly special festival! For many, Diwali is incomplete without bursting crackers. However, these crackers can be a potential fire hazard that might harm you or your beloved car. Poor cars, right?

Here are 7 #DrivezyTips you can follow to keep your car safe, this Diwali:

1. Keep A Portable Fire Extinguisher In The Car

Haven’t we all heard stories about someone who has had a bad firecracker accident? Thus, it would be wise to keep a portable fire extinguisher in your car as a safety precaution.

2. Keep The Windows Closed While Driving

Driving through a busy street where everyone is busy bursting crackers, we’d recommend you to always keep the windows shut while driving to prevent any stray firecracker from entering your car. As an added benefit, closing your windows would even cut off some of the noise pollution especially if you’re travelling with a child. And then there’s the AC too… who doesn’t like to drive with the AC on, right?

3. Keep A First Aid Box In The Car

Where there’s crackers, there may be a lot of potential burn injuries and accidents. It would be awesome if you keep a first-aid kit within your grasp inside the car just in case.

4. Park Your Car Under A Covered Area

As the sky lights up with fireworks on the Diwali, please remember to park your car under a covered area to avoid any accidental damages. Your car will thank you and this doggo for it :)

5. Do Not Use Car Covers

Car covers are mostly not fireproof and may even accentuate a small fire into a massive catastrophe. Even if you’re not able to find a covered parking spot, leave the covers (unless you’re fully sure that they’re fireproof).

6. Be Very Aware Of People Lighting Firecrackers On The Road

As much as you want to avoid this, chances are that, you will invariably find some people letting off firecrackers at the side of the road irresponsibly. A good practice would be to stop your car at a distance if you see anyone lighting a firecracker on the road — especially bombs and the likes; just wait till it bursts and then proceed. Better late and safe than sorry, right?

7. Don’t Drink And Drive

One of the major contributors to road rage and accidents during Diwali are drunk drivers. You should avoid alcohol if you’re driving on Diwali and vice versa. It’s just not worth the gamble — Diwali or no Diwali.
