TOMORROW: Jewish Women of Color to Convene Ahead of Women’s March
At the Women’s March on Saturday, January 19, #JWOCmarching — an international delegation of 75 Jewish Women of Color — will be leading the national march procession in Washington, D.C., followed by a larger contingent of over 250 Jewish women. The group is marching to affirm support for the Women’s March and its unity principles, and to demonstrate the unique and crucial role of Jewish women of color in organizing movements for social justice.
“We are a Native American and African American Jewish family, and I had to be here for this moment,” shared Lasha Tilsen-Toles, who has traveled from Minnesota to march with three young children. “And I am so excited that my daughters will get to have this moment for the rest of their lives.”

What: A gathering to demonstrate support for the Women’s March and its unity principles and unique and crucial role of Jewish women of color in organizing movements for social justice
Date: Saturday, January 19th, 2019
Times and Locations:
- 8:30 AM ET #JWOCmarching pre-march gathering at New York Avenue Presbyterian Church (1313 New York Ave NW, Washington, DC 20005).
- 9:30 AM ET Jewish delegation will assemble outside of the Church, and our #JWOCmarching group will lead the way to our staging area at 13th St and Jefferson Dr SW. We will then proceed as a group to the National March gathering point at Freedom Plaza.
- The National March is scheduled to begin at 10 AM ET. Yavilah McCoy, one of the leaders of the #JWOCmarching coalition, will be a featured speaker at the National March.
In an open letter released last week, members of the #JWOCmarching coalition expressed solidarity with the Women’s March: “As Jewish Women of Color, we support the Women’s March and believe that this is the time for our communities to affirm together that women’s rights are human rights and human rights are women’s rights….As Jewish Women of Color who live at the intersection of racism, sexism and anti-Semitism, and who are committed to standing against white supremacy, patriarchy and religious oppression in all its forms, we will play an integral role in the healing and unification of our communities and in the work of securing greater justice and freedom for us all.” Currently the letter has almost 300 signers.
