JEWISH WOMEN OF COLOR MARCHED THIS WEEK IN WASHINGTON, DC

Large, diverse, international delegation of Jewish women of color and their allies convened for DC Women’s March

WASHINGTON D.C.- January 20, 2019: A national delegation of hundreds of Jewish Women of Color and their allies were a part of the thousands of women who converged on the nation’s capital for the third annual Women’s March.

In an open letter posted on Medium.com last week, the coalition affirmed its support for the March’s unity principles and emphasized the unique and crucial role of Jewish women of color in organizing for social justice.

The coalition — whose members hail from communities across the US and Canada, and whose participants are leaders from across of a range of social, political, religious, and secular groups and organizations — were represented among the march’s official roster of speakers by Boston-based CEO Yavilah McCoy.

“Being in community at the Women’s March felt life-giving, affirming, and hopeful” says Yaya Rosado-Torres part of the healer’s team in the Jewish Women of Color coalition.

The coalition convened in Washington prior to the march and held several Jewish Women of Color events in the DC area throughout the weekend, including participating in the March.

Rabbi Mira Rivera of Jewish Women of Color Resilience Circle said “My Strength and the song of the Divine will be my salvation: Singing and walking the walk with my sisters because because they called and I came to the table.”
