Besides owning the right heroes, gems are also an essential aspect that helps you progress more easily in Kaby Arena. In this guide, we would like to give you an overview of the gem system.

In short, gems are magical stones that provide crucial bonuses to the stats of heroes, making them much stronger and resistant. Each hero can be equipped with up to 5 gems. Gems are found in special sets of either 2 or 3. When equipping a certain set of gems, you will activate set effects. Also, gems are divided into different grades of rarity, ranging from common, up to legendary. The rarer the equipment, the more powerful it is, simple!

1/ Attributes

Each gem has a main attribute (or main stat, main effect). The type of bonus gained from the main attribute is determined by the slot number it goes into. Effect types either take the form of Stat + X or Stat +% (e.g. DEF + 5 or DEF + 3%). Usually, percentage-based stats are better than flat values, since the first will scale with your monster’s strength.

In addition, gems also possess up to 4 sub-attributes (also called sub-stats) which can be SPD+, HP+, DEF+, ATK+, HP+%, DEF+% or ATK+%. The number of sub-attributes depend on the rarity and level of the gem. Sub-attributes cannot be the same as the main attribute of the Gem.

2/ Sets

Gems are currently divided into 8 types that are used to combine sets. Each gem set gives us a special bonus if we complete the set (some require 3 pieces to get a bonus while others require 2). For instance, if you equip two No.7 gems, you will get the set bonus of DEF +15%.

The table below shows the list of Gems and their respective set effects:

3/ Slots

Each monster has a maximum of 5 slots to equip gems, counting from 1 to 5 as the image above. This gives you space for one 3-set and one 2-set Gem set (or two 2-set Gem sets).

The slot number of a specific Gem determines what kind of effects are available for that Gem as a main attribute. The following table demonstrates this:

A golden rule of thumb is that percentage based effects provide a greater boost to hero stats, as they scale to a monster’s strength. Because the main attributes of slot 2 and 4 gems can be either flat or percentage; while slot 1,3 and 5 can only be flat, it is advised to prioritize slot 2 and 4 gems.

4/ Rarity

Gems have 5 different grades of rarity, each corresponds to a star rating:

  • COMMON — White: ⭐️
  • UNCOMMON — Green: ⭐️⭐️
  • RARE — Blue: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
  • EPIC — Purple: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
  • LEGENDARY — Orange: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The higher the rarity, the more sub-attributes the Gem will start with. For instance, at level 1, a Common Gem has no extra effects, Uncommon has one, a Rare has two, and so on.

When you power up your gems, it gains bonus sub-stats at levels 2/4/6/8. The following table shows how many sub-attributes your gems will have depending on rarity and level:

High rarity gems have the following benefits:

  • Better initial stats
  • Better stats increase per level up
  • Sub-attributes are revealed beforehand. (Uncommon -> reveal 1 sub attribute, Rare -> reveal 2, Epic -> reveal 3, Legendary -> reveal 4)

5/ Power-up

Gems can be strengthened by powering-up using KGT tokens. Each gem can be leveled up to a max of level 10, but cannot change its grade of rarity.

Upgrading gems will increase main stats, with the amount increased with each level-up dependent on the grade of rarity. At each level 2/4/6/8, the gem will gain a bonus sub-attribute if there is not enough sub-attribute yet. If there are enough sub-attributes, an existing one will be randomly strengthened.

For example:

A Common Gem with no sub-attribute at level 1 will create a new sub-attribute (ATK +2%) when leveled up to level 2.

Also that Common gem when powered up to level 5, since it has enough 2 sub-attributes, it won’t create a new one but randomly strengthen a preexisting sub-stat (ATK +1 => ATK +5).

5.1. Stats

Gem stats and upgrades are illustrated in the following table:

At every level up from 1->9, the main attribute will increase according to the table above.

At level 10, the gem will increase a large amount of main stats (x3 from normal).

5.2. Upgrade costs:

The cost of powering-up a gem depends on the gem’s rarity as shown in the table below:

*The upcoming Gem Box sale only sells up to Epic gems. Legendary gems are currently not available, it’s still a mystery! Just wait for how we can get them!

*Gem can be equipped/removed from heroes for free
