It feels like yesterday when I was sitting at a booth at the Innovation Center of the University of Bristol with GOV.UK open on my laptop ready to register Kaedim as a company.

Since then, I had to answer the question “What does “Kaedim” mean?” countless times. The answer is, well, nothing. It was the only .com we could afford with the criteria of a. short, simple name and b. less than $10 to buy.

So much has happened over the past 4 years and I am so proud of the team we’ve built, the product we are pouring sweat and tears over, all the customers that we’ve helped and all the relationships we’ve built.

The ups and downs have been crazy, to say the least, but what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.

So, let me tell you a bit about our startup, Kaedim.

Kaedim is an AI startup. We are developing the next generation of AI tools for creators, starting from 3D artists. Our mission is to accelerate the transition from a digital 2D world to a 3D one. The key component of this goal is making 3D content creation which is currently super time-consuming and expensive, highly scalable. Without sacrificing quality.

So, this is what we do. We are a team of machine learning engineers, software engineers, 3D artists, and creators making one step each day closer to a world where everyone can create in 3D. Fast and easy.

Why do we do this? Well, it all started when I chose to take a 3D modelling and a 3D animation course at university back in 2019. I remember thinking “How hard can it be?” The answer is: very.

My animation project in Autodesk Maya. Dec 2019.

By starting to address my frustration, fast forward 4 years we are helping hundreds of game developers, 3D printing shops, product designers, architects, and marketers accelerate their 3D asset production in their everyday lives.

Throwback to some of the highlights

Here are some of the moments that stand out:

2020 — Graduated with a CS degree, won the New Enterprise Competition of our University and received the company’s first money in the bank from Chris Kingsley. Felt like the world was our oyster. No one was there to tell us otherwise.

2021 — Launched the first version of the Kaedim web app, and started selling. Ioanna, Jorge, and Om joined the mission.

What our devs run on: snacks and energy drinks
Ah, the early days of Kaedim

2022 — Went VIRAL in August of 2022 post launching our “trials” with thousands of people joining our Discord overnight, then waking up to hundreds of trolls saying we are a scam lol. Raised our Seed in Autumn 2022. Diego and Alfin joined the team.

We did lots of recruiting… and still are!

2023 — Went hardcore from Day 1, celebrated the New Year by launching automatic texturing on Jan 1, 2023. LOL. Launched our suite of automatic tools including Levels of Detail (LoDs) and UV unwrapping, and onboarding some of the most legendary game studios as enterprise customers. Rachel, Antonis, Cherise, and Zach joined the team. Opened the San Francisco Kaedim HQ!

Something is cooking 👀

It’s good to take a moment and look back once in a while because the hard moments feel like they last longer than the successes do.

There is still a huge amount of work to be done to fulfil this team’s ambition and the needs of our customers.

Thinking of the same problem every day for 4 years is powerful

The problem we chose is hard. It’s also what makes it worthwhile. It’s also what attracts the best of the best to join our team.

Making one step of progress every day can have a compound effect and we are all feeling the momentum. Everyone has so many ideas and we are constantly inspired by the feedback of our customers and team members. Each attempt, each failure, and each tiny victory is fueling us to keep going, keep iterating, and keep fighting.

The past 4 years have been incredibly hard, but also incredibly rewarding. Our team is what I’m most proud of. We have a long path ahead and we all have full faith and vision of where we want to bring Kaedim to. We are geared up for the long haul, embracing each challenge with resilience and each success with humility, always striving to exceed our limits and redefine what’s possible in the realm of digital 3D creation.

Couldn’t have done it without you

I am incredibly grateful for all the people who believed in us no matter how early stage or how little our credentials.

Shoutout to my university mentors and teachers, Kirsten Carter, Andy Littledalle, and of course, Colin Dalton (iykyk).

Shoutout to Chris Kingsley of Rebellion Games for believing in and giving money to a 21-year-old in late 2020. Shoutout to Tom Blomfield, Matt Robinson, Jane Walerud, Patrick Pitchette, Gerasimos Vergotis, Eden Chen, Sterling Snow and so many others for joining the journey and supporting us day in and day out.

And to the Kaedim team, I am incredibly proud of each one of you, for the extreme amount of responsibility each person carries, the above-and-beyond mindset applied to every single day at work, the hard-working mentality and incredible resilience along with technical excellence.

WE ARE JUST GETTING STARTED. LET’S FUCKING GOOOOO 🚀
