Think more about your thinking

Are there any solutions to the modern chaos around us?

That’s what I was wondering just a month ago…

I have a few thoughts to offer. And it has to do with where you focus in the now:

We always talk about stopping but don’t have the time to do so.

It’s been there all along: stopping can mean stopping for just 2 seconds at a time.

And it’s still efficient in introducing calm and joy.

Think about your thinking.

As humans, we’re gifted with the breathtaking ability to choose what to focus on. Not all animals enjoy this luxury!

And while there are chemical processes behind our mood and state of mind, a lot of us walk around angry and anxious for no reason.

We can choose what to focus on.

We simply choose not to choose.

These fantastic mind games are our birthright. You can decide right now what to focus on.

And it’s always right now.

So make life a game every now and then: Observe your environment and be awed by how much of everything amazing there’s going on.

Someone’s boots. The tree on the left. The pile of snow.

Conversely, do not focus on how miserable the day ahead will be.

The only way to think better is to stop.

Stop trying so hard to think, stop doing so much all the time. This doesn’t have to happen at the expense of your productivity — and the best part is you can stop for just 1 second to do this.

I’ve finally again rediscovered my habit of stopping for a bit in the morning before going to work.

I sit in the same cafe, write things down, and observe people as they hurry by. I let my own thoughts mingle and create new baby thoughts

Idea sex.

Letting your ideas out like it’s the first day of spring is a gamechanger for your creativity and mood.

For me, all it took was moving to another part of the planet so that the mornings would not be so full of meetings.

Ha.

But try it!

Block your mornings.

Stop and see what’s buried in your head.

I bet you’ll surprise yourself positively!
