What is a UX Developer?

A User Experience Developer, UX Developer (UXD), focuses on writing clean, concise, and accessible HTML and CSS. Our team works closely in partnership with the Design team as well as with JavaScript and back-end developers. We love to dive deep into the details of style, user experience, and accessibility. In our day-to-day work, we partner with Design to advocate for a better user experience. In addition, we work closely with Engineering to build components that are easy to use and well documented.

UX Developers fill an often undervalued but vital role in the web development process. We use our highly specialized knowledge to create high-quality features and products.

Ashely Echols, UX Developer at Kajabi

UX Developers work in the “front” of the front-end. The conversation around the front of the front-end and the back of the front-end has been getting more attention in the last several years. Chris Coyier talks about this in his article The Great Divide as well as in his podcast, The ShopTalk Show. The movement toward separating specialties in front-end development underlines what Kajabi has been doing for years.

Increase empathy for your users

Empathy is a core value to our UX Developer team.

  • Creating intuitive workflows
  • Simplifying complicated interactions
  • Keeping accessibility at the forefront of our work

Diversity of thought

The UX team broadens the discussion when planning and executing our user experiences.

  • Bringing diverse perspective to every step of the development process
  • Understanding a workflow from a different perspective not previously considered
  • More inclusive designs and user experiences

Polished visual interface

We pride ourselves on perfecting every detail of the user experience.

  • UX Developers always strive for pixel perfection
  • Responsive considerations receive equal attention
  • Close collaboration with design to ensure accuracy of the UI compared to designs

UX Developer teams add a focus on semantic HTML and well-thought-out CSS which, not only adds improved accessibility but considerable performance improvements.

Quinton Jason Jr, UX Developer at Kajabi

At Kajabi, we value the UX Developer role as equal developer partners in the building process. This role empowers our team to focus on the details around the visual interface, while allowing our JavaScript and back-end developers the ability to focus on the details of their areas of expertise. This focus on specialization within the world of front-end development is what makes Kajabi a better product with every release.
