Bruce Springsteen — Darkness On The Edge Of Town
Vinyl, LP, Album, 1978
The Badlands are beautiful, yes, but I have ignored them all my life. Because they have always been there. Forever, they’ve been in my life; at the other end of the state, over where the motorcycles and tourists show up during the summer. They’re forever forgotten, until the moment I see them again, and they take my breath away, and I wonder why I’ve never given them much thought.
And then I continue on, to the Tetons or Yellowstone or Custer and forget them again.
There’s a metaphor here, probably. But mostly I’m just embarrassed I don’t hold the Badlands more dear.
