Meet the Kambrian — Johannes
Time to introduce everyone to Sebastian Vettel…. uhmmm… we mean Johannes Lühr. He joins Kambr as an Account Executive. Not only does he have a Formula 1 doppelgänger, but also has a very interesting flight story to share.
Where are you from?
Originally the western part of Germany, very close to the Dutch and Belgium border. Now I am living close to Hamburg.
What’s your role at Kambr?
I joined Kambr as Account Executive, which means I will help Kambr grow and win new customers.
What was your path to Kambr?
Before joining Kambr, I was working for Infare, who provide competitor airfare data to the airlines’ RM systems.
Eddy (Kambr’s RM system) was a system we were feeding data into for some of our customers and I wanted to get to know this ‘new kid on the block’. So I asked Mike and Martin to give me and my colleagues a demo and … now I’m here!
What’s something you want your colleagues to know about you?
Even though I look like him, I’m NOT Sebastian Vettel.
What keeps you busy outside of work?
My 1 ½ year old son, my dog and family in general — love spending time with them. If there’s any free time left I like spending that on the tennis court.
What’s your superpower?
My friends still believe I can change airline ticket prices for them like I used to working as a Revenue Manager… But I guess now my superpower is spending hours looking for the best option for them and being a helpful person in general.
What makes you nervous?
Not being on time. Yes, very German I know.
What are you proud of?
Going through Covid with a newborn wasn’t easy so I’m very proud of my little family and how we managed.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
My dad always tells me not to take myself and life too seriously. Guess that helped me become a more relaxed and fun person.
What’s one thing you always wanted to do?
Skydiving — just not sure if I will be brave enough.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
Sounds like a cliché, but always wanted to be a pilot.
What’s the most interesting (or unusual) job you’ve had?
I worked as a ticketing/ check-in agent for a bit for Lufthansa during my studies. Those were the good old days with sufficient staff at the airport… was good fun!
What’s your favorite/dream destination to fly to?
Would love to fly to Hawaii one day. Business please — otherwise it would be a hell of a flight from Europe.
What’s the airport you’ve been to the most?
Apart from my home airport, HAM, I guess that would be Singapore since I lived there for half a year and had many business trips to SIN.
What’s your favorite aviation related film?
Top Gun is great. I also like Up in the Air as it shows how it feels to fly on duty.
Window seat or aisle seat?
When on business aisle; window with my family, but my son would have the window seat anyways.
Do you have any funny or weird flight stories?
My flight once performed an emergency landing with both pilots being unconscious for several minutes (due to smoke in the cockpit) without us passengers noticing anything.
Was a normal flight and a normal landing — just all those firemen boarding the plane after touch down were a bit unusual.
