Time to get to know one of our newest Kambrians! Introducing Julie Deshowitz! Read on to learn how she (indirectly) contributed to keeping Texas A&M athletes on the field and the unique exercise regime she does to stay fit.

Where are you from?

I was born in Temple, Texas but grew up in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. I currently live in Southlake, TX.

What’s your role at Kambr?

I will be working with Morgan Lefferdink to build out the finance function at Kambr.

What was your path to Kambr?

My husband knows Jason so when Jason was coming to DFW recently for business, he came to dinner and I finally got to meet him.

The next day, my husband was looking on the website and saw the job posting and asked Jason about it. After some conversations with Morgan, Kenny G, and Chris, I was invited to join!!!

Most of my career was spent in various Finance/Accounting roles at Southwest Airlines. Additionally, I spent some time in specialty retail and construction. I’m excited to be back in the airline-related world at Kambr!!

What’s something you want your colleagues to know about you?

I am excited to be here!! I am a proud Texas (A&M) Aggie and love to laugh!

What keeps you busy outside of work?

Cooking, Camp Gladiator workouts, reading, entertaining, going to concerts/musicals/plays/festivals — really any activity with friends/family!!

What’s your superpower?

Not really sure that I have one, but if I have to pick something I’m good at, I’d pick talking — my parents always told me I would talk to the wall! :)

What makes you nervous?

People watching me work!

What are you proud of?

Working out with Camp Gladiator — I don’t really like working out but have been doing Camp Gladiator for 4.5 years!! I even participated in CG Games for 2 years, which was WAAAY outside my comfort zone. But, I had some awesome friends/teammates to do it with!

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

Take work seriously, but not yourself (ode to SWA)

What’s one thing you love to do?

Travel!! I love to see new places, try local cuisine and beverages!!!

What did you want to be when you grew up?

A criminal attorney

What’s the most interesting (or unusual) job you’ve had?

In college, I was a tutor for the Athletic Department. Trying to teach accounting to athletes on scholarships was interesting for sure!!!

What’s your favorite/dream destination to fly to?

Dream destination — Galapagos Islands; favorite — any beach!!

What’s the airport you’ve been to the most?

DAL — Love Field, thanks to 20 years at SWA

What’s your favorite aviation related film?

The old AIRPORT movies from the 70s — I remember watching them as a kid. Top Gun, of course, is in there, too — from my formative time!! :)

Window seat or aisle seat?

I prefer the window so I can rest my head on the side. However, I generally give it to my husband because otherwise he leans over me to look out the window anyhow!!! ;)

Do you have any funny or weird flight stories?

Once, I was trying to non-rev from DAL to SLC for the NCAA Kickoff Classic (to watch my Aggies). We made it to ABQ, but couldn’t make it the rest of the way so we ate dinner in the airport and flew home. :(
