On May 12th, Dr. Thuc Vu, CEO & Co-founder of Kambria, met with the Hue Province People’s Committee on AI, Robotics, Blockchain and Introduction of Hue VietSeeds Fund. Together with Dr. Loi Luu (CEO of Kyber Network) and Mr. Truong Quoc Hung (Director of VinBrain and member of Vingroup), Dr. Vu participated in the launch of the development program for the city of Hue to become an innovative and technology-oriented city of the future.

The meeting was attended by Mr. Phan Ngoc Tho (Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee), Mr. Duong Trung Quoc (Historian and Economic Specialist), Dr. Nguyen Tri Dung (Researcher), Mr. Nguyen Dac Xuan (Associate Professor), Dr. Nguyen Quang Linh (Director of Hue University), as well as other institute and department leaders.

During the event, Dr. Vu shared: “With outstanding features, AI technology has supported people with a lot of work in all areas. In Hue, AI & Robotics can be applied a lot in tourism, used to promote Hue’s image to tourists. Besides, AI can also be applied to manage smart cities, smart universities. “

About Blockchain technology, Dr. Luu shared: “Blockchain is a way that the whole community can participate, creating transparency and trust among people. Currently, Blockchain technology has been applied by many countries in the world with many fields such as education, banking, remittance, and banking. These are very practical applications which leaders of the government and universities can study and apply in order to create transparency and trust among consumers.”

Discussing the preeminent features of technologies, researcher Nguyen Dac Xuan shared his opinion about individual data privacy, that there should be a data center, policies and a mechanism to store and protect data resources. It should be similar to a bank where a consumer’s data ownership can be ensured. In response, Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, Phan Ngoc Tho, emphasized that Hue has built a Data Center to support data storage and querying, but the scale is still small. Hue is ready to expand policies to support those in need in the province. If Hue wants to use data on a larger scale, it must create a roadmap to ensure the scale and requirements of Hue University.

At the conference, the VietSeeds Fund was introduced to the city of Hue. The VietsSeeds Foundation was founded by two alumni of Stanford University (USA), one of which is Kambria’s CEO, Dr. Vu, with the mission of training young people to contribute to the community and to build a future generation of young leaders. Vietseeds Foundation can help build a student network in Hue with a positive influence on the community, becoming a platform to engage students, universities, businesses, and governments to promote the development of Hue.

At the end of the meeting, Chairman Phan Ngoc Tho emphasized that the meetup held great significance not only for Hue University scientists in the field of artificial intelligent technology research and development but also for the province in developing its potential. Hue is eager to apply information technology in various social causes, as well as in the development of local entrepreneurial ecosystems. The Chairman hopes that in the near future, Dr. Thuc Vu and Dr. Loi Luu will help bring and foster creative ideas to support the province, turning it into a bridge to domestic and foreign partners with respect to training and improving the quality of human resources.

Interest in AI and robotics is not limited to the Hue Province People’s Committee; the Vietnamese government in general has emphasized the importance of investing in these industries as part of the country’s strategy to leapfrog in the Industrial Revolution 4.0.

This summer, in collaboration with the Vietnamese government, Kambria is spearheading the Vietnam AI Grand Challenge 2019, a hackathon series whose mission is to train young AI developers. With the support of knowledge partners such as McKinsey & Company and VietAI, the Grand Challenge will bring together the country’s best AI talent to support corporations in Vietnam and globally in designing the ultimate AI virtual assistant.
