“I am thankful for this training experience, for it has helped to change my mindset and prejudices that I once had against these boys. I have learnt so much more about these boys and after this training workshop, I am confident and looking forward to engaging my assigned boy in the next phase!! ”

— Victor Tan, Year 3 NUS undergraduate

This is an example of the teaching materials designed to ensure that NUS youths who join the KameraKakis program will be able to interact with the Boys from the Boys Home effectively. This ensures that everyone can learn and engage in meaningful sharing during the Engagement Phase (with the Boys) and Publicity Phase (with the publicity). This includes learning how to adopt a non-judgemental stance towards them and about their Boys background.

Staff from the Singapore Boys Home will co-conduct sessions to help the youth-volunteers orientate themselves with the institution. They will also bring valuable insight into the context and backgrounds of the Boys, for instance, into the mindset of why these juveniles have committed some of the offences — such as gang related activities.

Worksheet

To help the youths understand the community development nature of our project, we have also created slides to help the youth-volunteers understand some Community Development principles such as Asset-based community development.
