You do more than what you THINK

One of the most critical elements in defining predictability is identifying the requests for the different types of work placed in your project. We often make the common mistake of generalizing the timelines for everything. The generalization leads to committing to unachievable delivery dates. To meet these dates, we try to start everything and not complete anything on time. Ultimately, it all leads to stakeholder dissatisfaction and low employee morale.

Determining the type of work in Product Development

You are a Product Development Team. The team aims to add features to boost the product’s value, which will help you generate more revenue.

Surprisingly, feature development is not the only work that the team does. Once you analyze the data from the completed work, you will see the types of work this team did. The initial list could be:

  1. Development of a new functionality.
  2. Enhancement to an existing functionality.
  3. Defects found by the testing team during testing functionality.
  4. Defects identified by the customers from the actual usage of the product.
