Unlike GIFs, videos can have a soundtrack that makes them funnier and more entertaining, emotional, and informative. You don’t need to download a powerful video editing program to add music on your videos; you can use a free website to merge or replace the sountrack instead.

In this post, I’ll share how you add music to a video using a free, online tool called Kapwing.

Step 1: Find your soundtrack

Start by finding the music you want online. Kapwing supports an audio file upload or a video upload (we’ll extract the audio from that video for you).

YouTube and Facebook both have libraries of free sound effects and royalty-free music that you can add to your videos. You can also paste the link of a YouTube video or record an original audio track with an app like Voice Recorder. There are thousands of other sites with free and paid sound and music offerings. If your video purpose counts under fair use, you can even add a popular song to your video.

Kapwing’s Trendy Sound Effects editor has a built-in library with trendy sounds like Cash Me Outside and Pacman’s munch. You can use the free tool to add the sounds to your video directly.

Step 2: Merge audio file with video file

Trim the audio to the start and end point you want. Then, use a video editor or a website like Kapwing to merge the music with your video’s sound track.

With Kapwing’s add music to video tool, you can upload your video or paste a link to the video if it is already on YouTube or another site. Then, upload your MP3 and choose the start time so that the audio plays at the right moment. Kapwing will merge your music with the video’s sound to preserve its existing audio. You can also mute the video’s existing soundtrack to replace it with the new music.

Once your video has been created, download it to share with your friends or publish it to Facebook, Instagram, or another social media site.
