Cruising down Route 2 in Montana, I’m curious about finding a gas station in the next 30 miles or so. I see this car

and pull a turn U-turn to go back for a pic. The car is parked outside of the Sugar Shack.

I meet a few guys in the parking lot and ask about gas. They direct me over the tracks into the town of Rudyard (pop. approximately 183.) Great. But first, what’s inside the Sugar Shack?

It’s a tiny rendition of a 50’s diner. I take a seat at the counter and the boy on the other side of it, pad in hand, asks what I would like.

“What flavors of ice cream do you have?”

“Vanilla and chocolate.” He says it as though it’s the most natural thing in the world to have only two choices. I’m a little surprised, but it is a very small place. I feel like a spoiled city…
