Eugene Spencer Lego was born in Worcester, Ma on May 15, 1910.

He worked as a lineman for New England Power Company for 32 years. He and Dorothy Mae White were married on June 29,1932 and they moved to Shutesbury, Massachusetts with their three children after he was assigned the oversight of high tension lines in Franklin county.

Utility line work is one of the top 10 of the most dangerous jobs in America. Around 30 to 50 workers in every 100,000 are killed on the job every year. That’s more than twice the fatality rate of police officers and firemen.

Eugene Lego was a family man who worked hard and served his community. He became Shutesbury fire chief in 1951 and during this time organized the volunteer fire department and helped build the fire station where it stands today.
