An Overview

The purpose of this app is to help remind people of simple tasks they may have trouble remembering throughout the day. This app is made to be used for anyone and suited for any lifestyle such as a student, a parent or an elderly.

Context & Challenge

The goal was to create an app that was user friendly with any level of knowledge to technology. Apps on the market tend to be over complicated for users who are not tech savvy and becomes frustrating to use. Current apps feature the option to personally input a reminder and gives the user the option whether to repeat it or not which then becomes a task itself. The objective was to create something different and branch out from the same style of apps that was already available.

The Process and Insight

Rather than being another cookie cutter reminder app, I decided to have this app be a texting based reminder. The app acts like an extension you would download onto your computer, only in this case it’s a messaging extension. After revising the original idea, the app would have been too complicated for people who aren’t tech savvy such as older generations. As the app mostly resides in the texting app, I recreated the app by creating the outline and using icons from Material Design and similar colours.

The picture above was the first concept for the app. The wireframe shows a much different app idea than the one I eventually went with. Originally I wanted to stay within the app and have things done manually, the opposite with the end result.

Solution

The trench in technology now is to do things handsfree such as using Siri or Alexa. With this trend in mind, the app functions with simple text commands that you would send to the AI. The original app setup is done in the app and when you initially download the app, everything else is done communicating with the AI.

Results

This assignment helped me creatively as it forced me to think outside of the box. It also helped me to be more considerate as a designer because it forced me to be more aware of the type of people that would benefit from this app. This assignment helped me further my knowledge in Illustrator and taught me to use already existing resources to my advantage such as icons provided by Material Design.
