TumblGram? A Hybrid.

The creative process behind this design was finding a way to merge Instagram and Tumblr together. Bridging an easy to navigate site with a minimal design layout was a challenge because each icon had to appear straight forward and to the point.

The layout I created is a combination of both, as I took some components as inspiration. The toolbar on the right were inspired by Tumblr as they’re all available features on that platform. The way the pictures are shown are inspired by the way Instagram is set up; in a grid format where you have to click to expand and view the post. The layout will serve as a place where the user will be able to post pictures and write posts.

The challenges that I came across were mostly old habits carried from Photoshop because the shortcuts are different between the two. I also had trouble with the icons for the toolbar on the right because after exporting it as a JPEG, they became pixelated. After exporting the layout, there was still something that felt incomplete and missing, but I didn’t know what else to fill the negative space with.
