Introducing Kargo’s Transporter App

When Kargo started in 2018, its mission was to re-imagine logistics with technology. Kargo’s Transporter App is one step towards that mission. With the Transporter App, Kargo gives transporters the tools and peace of mind to easily manage their operations across the end-to-end shipment process. From finding loads, to conducting shipments, to getting paid — we’ve made it simple and easy for transporters to run their business.

Onboarding and Verification: The transporter’s journey with Kargo begins with onboarding and verification. In order to ensure trustworthy transporters in the Kargo Marketplace, we verify the quality of every Kargo transporter. As a result, Kargo verifies the documents and vehicles of transporters before they can compete for loads. In the Transporter App, transporters receive step-by-step in-app guidance with clear explanations for each requirement and action. With our streamlined process, Transporters can get verified in less than 2 hours and start taking shipments.

Job Discovery: Technology has transformed how transporters find jobs. Before the age of smartphones, algorithms, and the internet, transporters had no choice but to use manual, in-person methods. Before Kargo, transporters relied on brokers or their personal network to find jobs. Now with Kargo, transporters can immediately access hundreds of jobs in the Kargo Marketplace. Kargo provides filtering and preference-based notifications to easily find the most relevant jobs.

Bidding: To ensure that both shippers and transporters get the best deal, Kargo uses bidding to match transporters with jobs. We designed the bidding process to be fast and transparent. If a transporter wants to take a certain job, they can place a bid or Accept Now. The Accept Now option lets transporters immediately win the job at the posted price, so transporters have immediate confidence that they won. For bids, Kargo responds as quickly as possible so that transporters have sufficient time to plan alternatives. Over 90% of bids receive a response within 1 hour.

On-Shipment: Once the shipment has started, disruptions can occur at any time. On top of the workload just to find jobs, monitoring and managing active shipments can become unbearable. To make shipment monitoring easier, Kargo has built a Transporter Management System (will be covered in a separate article). Combined with Kargo’s driver app, transporters can easily track their trucks.

Post-Shipment: After a shipment is completed, transporters wait to get paid. Traditionally, payment can take up to 3 months, making it difficult for transporters to access the cash they need to continue operations. To address this cashflow problem, Kargo offers fast, online payments. After a Proof of Delivery is approved by the shipper, Kargo pays transporters right away. To further help transporters access capital, Kargo also offers financing for shipments outside of Kargo. More details about Kargo’s financing program can be found at https://kargo.tech/en/early-payment/.

Receive payments within days, not months

Response from transporters: In regard to these product improvements, the response from transporters has been positive. “Kargo has made it much easier to run my business. Using Kargo’s transporter app, I can conveniently find jobs and get paid fast,” said Rizky, a transporter based out of Surabaya.
