First things first, we’ll get some of the more straightforward policies out of the way. With these policies we’ve kept them pretty standard erring on the side of trust. Remember, this is all designed for a small team where trust can be counted on between colleagues.

Equipment and Internet Use

The Equipment and Internet Use Policy basically dictate what can and can’t be done with company hardware and software. The core value we designed this policy around was to allow everyone to do anything they want with the equipment so long as it doesn’t put the greater company at risk.

While we’re on the topic of equipment it’s worth mentioning that we let all of our new hires choose their own gear. If you’re in the camp that thinks that’s a crazy idea let me convince you in our post next week.

Employee Code of Conduct

The Code of Conduct policy provides a good reference for new and established team members alike. The content of this policy is largely redundant since we hire people that have these traits naturally and have the more critical elements such as privacy covered by an NDA for example. That said, it’s good to have our expectations in writing so we can point to it when a line is crossed.

Throughout this policy you’ll see that we continually hammer on our goal of having an honest, independent, collaborative team that isn’t afraid to question every bit of the business. If you’re ever looking to work here, these are the qualities we look for to get that “good fit”.

Read the Policy - Conduct

Well, these weren’t the most interesting of policies to go through but we did it! From here on out it only gets better as we explore the rationale of letting new hires choose their own equipment and dive into our very permissive IP policy.

If you did read through either of the policies, good or bad, let us know what you think! We want to work towards the dream work environment and getting validation that we’re on the right track is just as important as having people poke holes in parts they don’t like.
