RANDY SCHMIDT LOSES CAMPAIGN FOR CONSTABLE IN JEFFERSON PARISH

(HARAHAN, LA.) — Randy Schmidt, a candidate who ran for constable in Jefferson Parish of the 6th Justice Court, has lost the election to Jason Ural on Nov. 3.

The campaign for constable came to an end on Tuesday night, the results announcing Jason Ural as the winner with a total of 21,840 votes. Schmidt was not far behind Ural, as he had a total of 14, 014 votes.

Ural has held the position of interim constable for three months due to the previous constable retiring. However, Schmidt soon decided that he wanted a change, so he decided to run for the position. Schmidt filled out the paper to be eligible to run in late July. From there, both Ural and Schmidt began their campaign, putting posters and other such things.

Schmidt was upset that he did not win, but he still managed to look on the bright side of his loss.

“Unless you are politically connected, it is very difficult to win an election,” said Schmidt. “I am proud that without any political connections, and virtually no budget to spend for the campaign, I received 14,014 votes, which was 30% of all votes cast.”

Schmidt did whatever he could to encourage people to vote, such as posting on his social media platforms and putting out posters. He and his family also stood on the side of Jefferson Highway near the election precinct, Third District Vol Fire Department on Election Day.

He was thankful that he had many people supporting his campaign. His social media manager, Betty-Ann Hoss, was also grateful to have been a part of the team.

“This is not my first time as social media manager for a political campaign. Each one has been entirely different from the others,” said Hoss. “Win or lose, I find it fascinating to be a part of the entire election process. It’s complicated and constantly changing, but it can be very enlightening and rewarding.”

Even with the conclusion of the election, Schmidt has remained content with the fact that he still received many votes despite that he lost, and he is grateful for the amount of support he has received from his family and friends.
