Designing skill trainings to empower rural communities and improve farm sustainability
Developing nations have a peculiar issue at hand. Their agriculture population is growing but their employability isn’t. People are not trained and most of them are not skilled enough to get a job in industries their government is aggressively pushing.
India for instance has an average age of 27. With time, there will be more and more unemployed and unemployable people here. We’d be having less participation from the rural class in the developing societies and we’ll dive into an altogether different type of unemployment.
We believe that skill based training in the Rural India can fuel the much needed boost to rural employment. This essentially can lead us to more rural enterprises and thus more entrepreneurs.

Integrating agriculture training with enterprise training can help smallholders to manage and market their farm products more effectively, to take advantage of new agricultural opportunities. It can also help people diversify their production activities into multiple non-farm enterprises, to reduce their risk perceptiveness of monsoon and earn more income. Here’re some key components essential for the training module…
- Training that helps in engaging with larger market helps rural community to create a profit making enterprise. Manure production plant, organic farming or other such enterprise can help people earn additional income from the farm itself.
- Group training reduces the perceived risk to individual person of starting up enterprise as the group shares the cost incurred. Many governmental subsidies and help can also be obtained under this.
- Marketing Training has to be incorporated to support the quality expectations, capital management and price awareness, as all factors help them get the fair price and thus key to sustainability.
- Direct linkages to market and understanding of the value proposition is crucial to be empowered to interact with middleman on the fair terms.
- Financial management has to be taught along with every other training. Financial inclusion along with basic banking transaction training helps them to make their transactions comfortably.
