When it comes to considering renovations, it can be tough for new buyers, sellers or homeowners to visualize what their new project will look like. In fact according to the NAR, 90% of people can’t visualize a house beyond what they see.

The home design platform Kavtek has the solution: its free augmented reality app for iOS (iPhone and iPad) and Android devices (Google, Samsung, etc.) just received a major update that allows users to try new furniture, flooring, and paint options all at the same time, right before their eyes.

“When you can do things like instantly change a wall’s paint colour or cover an entire room’s floors in new hardwood, it’s easy to see why AR is popping up everywhere in the real estate industry,” said Angela Wood, a Toronto-based Realtor and Kavtek’s Head of Strategic Partnerships.

Although the app is geared towards homeowners and renters, Wood says real estate agents can use Kavtek to do on-the-spot home improvements that help buyers make a purchasing decision or help sellers make design improvements that could boost a home’s value.

Kavtek offers a subscription-based PRO version of the app that allows agents to offer their clients AR-enabled home design services.

“Augmented reality can be used within the Kavtek app to assist agents in communicating design ideas while customizing the experience of each property showing with their clients,” she commented.

The steps to using Kavtek’s home design features:

To try the AR features, users must download the Kavtek mobile app and select a design option from Kavtek’s main menu located in the bottom right of the screen. After selecting a product or flooring type users will be directed to scan the floor around them.

Once the scan is complete the product automatically appears. Products and floors can then be moved or rotated into position to fit the room’s layout. To apply new paint, the user simply taps a wall after selecting a colour. They can also take measurements using the app to calculate cost per square footage.

Lastly, consumers can instantly add products to their shopping cart or save it to their Kavtek ‘My Designs’ — an idea board that can be shared with a family member, friend, or real estate agent.

“With each new update Kavtek is continuing to make home design easier for the average homeowner using AR-enabled features,” added Wood. “Our latest release helps people find the best combination of furniture, flooring, and paint for their space, whether they’re buying or selling, all within the Kavtek app.”
