AI 1️⃣, The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy published ‘BLUEPRINT FOR AN AI BILL OF RIGHTS MAKING AUTOMATED SYSTEMS WORK FOR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE’. It is a blueprint, therefore not an indicative framework, an articulated document of analysis in which the guidelines adopted touch on the various potential aspects of digital rights connected to AI, digital rights by The White House
AI 2️⃣, each text2image platform has its own rules regarding copyright: both for the use by the platforms themselves of the images and texts that produce them (both contribute to learning AI and refinement of the outputs), and for the use of images after production. Finally, other different rules are in force on the platforms where users publish and even sell images. A mess that you try to deal with with difficulty, digital rights by Quartz
BCI, Synchron, an American company, implanted an electrode in the brain of an ALS patient (the company’s fourth experimental application) allowing him to browse the web, send emails and WA through thought. The Important Facts: first, implantation occurs with endovascular placement. Competing technology provides invasion of the skull; second, no side effects; third, Synchron ranks light years ahead of competitors, including Elon Musk’s Neuralink, innovation intelligence by Bloomberg
Digital Privacy 1️⃣, the use of a reliable VPN platform is a fundamental factor for the preservation of individual digital privacy at a minimal level. The problem is that the many market options available do not deliver what they promise. Here a recent excellent reliability analysis (not only for Windows, as in the title, but also for MAC, Linux and mobile-OS), not forgetting Outline VPN (a little more laborious but I recommend it), individual privacy intelligence by Consumer Report
Digital privacy 2️⃣, in this report how the internet censorship by the Iranian government, as a result of the well-known protests in the country, has influenced the connection to the various social platforms and the blocking of DoH, digital rights intelligence by OONI
Digital privacy 3️⃣, this looks like a game but it’s not. We also unknowingly use many apps that power AI learning systems to produce specific products. We do this directly or indirectly by uploading photos and their metadata. This site checks 5.8 billion images to match images and metadata drawing from LAION-5B. It is the largest existing dataset of images (and connected metadata): built for research purposes it is based on scraping and connection not only of information present on the web but also of the open-source libraries of AI app training algorithms, individual privacy intelligence
Geotagging, to celebrate 75 years of independence, the Indian Prime Minister invited citizens (and encouraged local authorities to promote the initiative) to take a selfie of their home with the national flag. Result: 50 million photos uploaded to the government site planned for the operation, which is the largest geotagging action implemented in the world so far. The investigation on the data privacy policy, on the sites where the data is allocated raises some doubts that the final goal was not the celebration of national pride, digital rights intelligence by Rest of World
Search engine, an internal search revealed in July by Google (as told very limited by focus, the search for restaurants for lunch), revealed that 40% of Gen Z members use TikTok or Instagram if they have to search for something on the web. It is not a question of platforms but of what the kids get as a result: videos, useful for choosing, and not pages full of ads and/or affiliated or approximate articles. This is the trend and leads, in the near future, to the need to reinvent itself, strategic intelligence by The Verge
Telegram 1️⃣, the texting platform with around 700 million active users is also becoming a doxing platform. Due to the level of privacy it allows, it is widely used to communicate both in repressive regimes and in democratic countries by those who have antagonistic ideologies. The problem is that it is also used to produce and spread doxing towards enemies. Telegram in the name of professed freedom, and most likely for company policy, practically refrains from moderation and this is creating difficulties around the world, privacy by Wired
Telegram 2️⃣, before the summer Telegram inaugurated the bot (and the multi-OS wallet) to buy TON, the intra-system crypto, through cards in usd and eur: TON, which is not a stablecoin, could be exchanged between users. Now the services have increased: you can use more fiat currencies and, above all, you can buy more cryptocurrencies. For now, the peer2peer exchange between users can only take place through TON but the foundation that manages the platform has declared that peer2peer will soon be possible also with other crypto. The issue is important for two reasons: first, the exchanges of money between users, with due attention, have a high degree of anonymity; second, this is a model that shows a way to break down one of the major obstacles to the development and spread of the Web 3, namely the exchange of money for services/goods for people who have difficulty in approaching traditional and decentralized exchangers. To try and read about go to telegram and type @wallet or the ton.org site, payments intelligence
