TikTok’s Flying Past Competition

This bar graph shows the top five most popular free app downloads for iPhones in 2019. TikTok was created in 2016 and has been growing ever since. Although this graph shows the pop free downloaded apps for iPhones in 2019, in October of 2018, Tiktok became the most downloaded app in the United States and from there it continued to gain popularity. Tiktok is one of the fastest growing applications since Facebook, however with the currently political issues that application founders and the United States government are trying to work out, TikTok could potentially no longer be available in the United States. Let’s compare how TikTok competes with Instagram and Snapchat.

In the past year, TikTok has managed to get as much as attention as social media platforms that have been around for more than five years. Tiktok started in 2016 and the chart shows the progression of popularity it has gain within the last twelve months in comparison to Snapchat and Instagram.

This data also shows that snapchat has remained relatively in the same spot for quite some time now, while Instagram seems to have alot of highs and lows but relatively remains in the same region of popularity. Tiktok definitely threatens Instagram and Tiktok but only for the younger crowd it seems. Majority of TikTok users are between the ages 16–24.
