We hosted the Ramen Challenge last December, and it ended up creating more opportunities to connect with our users than we expected! We issued the Challenge to Kdan users everywhere to create their best tasting (and most unique) recipe using ramen noodles and record them on NoteLedge. After narrowing down the competition, our team decided on a winner, @thewolves.art. After sending her Ramen noodles from Nona Lim, Allergy Orchard, and a year-long membership to Creativity 365, she offered to take things to the next level and collaborate on a campaign for our Animation Desk users. In honor of her account reaching 70,000 followers, we hosted the #DTIYS70K (Draw This In Your Style) Campaign. Her followers and our users came together to recreate one of her Animation Desk-inspired drawings. With such creativity and artistic talent, we had a few questions to ask about her work and creative process!

Tell us a bit about yourself!

Hello! I am thewolves.art — an artist on instagram! I mostly focus on digitally drawing animals and recreating or redrawing your favourite movie characters, or wonderful pictures captured by talented photographers, and giving them my own spin!

You won the Ramen Challenge because of your creative dish “Chicken Gyro Ramen,” is this a recipe you have had before? Or did you come up with it yourself?

This was not only very fun to cook, but also a fun challenge to design a recipe card for the contest! The recipe was made by Marion’s Kitchen! She did an excellent job creating it and I would suggest it to all Ramen lovers!

How was using NoteLedge helpful for creating your ramen recipe?

It was a wonderfully easy experience to learn NoteLedge for this contest! It helped me figure out the proper page layout and good little design ideas for the future. I have not had an app like it before and was pleased with the outcome of the recipe design!

You have artists send you their work for your #DTIYS (Draw This In Your Style) quite frequently. Does it help your work by seeing the styles of these other artists? Also, what was your inspiration behind your work with the Animation Desk logo (with the tiger and the baby chicks)?

Seeing everyone’s entry to the #DTIYS70K was so fun and inspiring! Even with the short two-week closing date, so many artists came together with their adorable remakes and ideas. I had only hosted one DTIYS before, so it was a lot of fun to have the Animation Desk Team join me in my second-ever celebration like that! It is, and always will be, so cool to see how many talented artists enter these contests.

My inspiration to make the Animation Desk logo into a tiger with its little chicken friends was based on color! The white and gray automatically brought up the thought of a beautiful white tiger, while the ombre of yellow and oranges brought up the thought of multiple small warm friends, such as the baby chicks! It was a fun design to make and I’m glad everyone enjoyed it!

You do a great job of drawing/animating animals. What are your key inspirations for this style? (What animations have you created using Animation Desk?)

My main inspiration is mainly focused on real life! It is always a good idea to learn how a real life animal may move, react, or look in certain situations! Recreating photographs of your own pets can even help you learn a lot! Giving a normal animal a magical atmosphere to live in or give off can make all the difference!

I have done quite a few animations on the Animation Desk app! Mostly sketches of course, but my favourite is the “Snow Fun” Piece I made for iAniMagic2019, featuring a dog just enjoying his Winter filled day! I hope to create a lot more with this app in the future with bigger pieces!

What programs do you use to create your artwork?

I focus on using Procreate for my main drawings, or Paper by Wetransfer for fun prompts! For My animation pieces, I also use Procreate, along with Animation Desk, DoInk Animation or Flipaclip, which are all apps you can get on your iPad!

Time to manifest your dreams into reality. If you could accomplish anything, what would be your biggest goal for you and your artwork?

Just like all artists, the big dream is to have fun with the job! Whether that is in an animation studio, digital and graphic designing, or just sharing your art with others!

It is always nice to learn from each other, get inspired or give others inspiration for their own pieces! Every drawing you make might just inspire someone else to start their own art journey, which should always be a big goal for anyone who can doodle!

We wanted to thank thewolves.art again for her help in creating this great campaign. You can find her instagram account here. Also, thank you to everyone that submitted for both the Ramen Challenge and #DTIYS70K — we received so many great submissions!
