Telling impact stories are the best way to connect with your donors. Nonprofit storytelling sparks the interest of new donors as well.

But you can’t randomly put words and pictures together and expect it to be impactful. You have to write with purpose. So, we’ll explore how your nonprofit can do that, with a focus on structure and some major story elements.

Nonprofit Storytelling Requires a Good Structure

Start with an outline.

Before writing anything, you should create an outline. This outline should answer a few key questions, including:

Who am I writing for?

• What is the purpose of this story?

What emotion do I want the reader to feel?

Where will this story live?

• What is the problem?

• What is the solution?

• How will people access this story?

Each of these points will help to place a sandbox around your story. These are the building blocks you will start with to create your narrative.
