Keele’s Facebook engagement has been ranked 2nd in the UK — behind only Oxford — in the March Edurank table, with engagement across all our social media channels ranked 5th in the UK and Ireland overall.

In addition, a post on the University’s Facebook page was also identified by Edurank as a ‘top post’ for March across the whole HE sector, after achieving 2,600 reactions and 69,000 impressions.

Edurank is a dedicated social media benchmarking platform for the education sector, and measures the digital activity of over 200 UK and Irish institutions.

Keele’s success comes down to the Strategic Communications and Brand (SC&B) team managing a broad and content-rich social media schedule, with a unique voice that stands out above the noise.

The bread and butter of the University’s content plan is centred around academic endeavour, be it demonstrating top quality teaching or showcasing research projects, but in addition this is complemented with more light-hearted and fun posts that give a more accurate glimpse into what life is like both on and off campus.

Ultimately, everything that we do in the SC&B team is to build the profile and perception of Keele, and this is especially true for a young audience who have grown up with social and are more comfortable using it as their main communications method. Part of our strategy is to reach and engage with these digital natives.

In March, this ranged from sharing our CO2 savings in a relatable way, to giving a behind-the-scenes look at the new wind turbine construction, and posting a Keele take on a trending meme.
