We’ve recently developed a new website content type called ‘Navigation box row’.

This content type is very similar to the existing ‘Promo row’, however, it does not use images.

This, therefore, makes the content type quicker to load, improving the overall page load speed. They also give pages a cleaner design.

You can see a preview of the content type on our scaffolding pages at keele.ac.uk/websupport/scaffolding/navigationboxrow

We strongly recommend the use of this content type for on-page navigation where images are not necessary. The example above shows ‘navigation box rows’ in use on a ‘fees and funding’ page, where images are not important to the user journey.

You can have up to 4 navigation boxes per row, and you can choose to split the width of the page by 2, 3 or 4 columns. On mobile screens, all columns will collapse into one column.
