It’s the One-Year Mark of Among the Most Positively Powerful Experiences of My Life: Writing About Being Legally Affirmed in Gender & Name

--

Tragically, an order U.S. President Donald Trump made should be nullifying part of the effect of this. However, it’s been two years since I was legally affirmed. (As it’s called, getting a legal gender and name change.) I nearly don’t believe it’s truly been that long.

It has, however. A year ago, for the anniversary of that hearing, I wrote a content piece about it. I never had heard of writing about a gender-affirming experience to be such a powerful gender-affirming experience of its own.

But oh, how it was.

As I wrote the article on a Sunday evening in downtown Los Angeles — text of it is below —my eyes got moist. My whole body was shaking. And while I indeed was still able to write, my body shook for about 45 minutes.

I was so enjoying writing while reliving the hearing that I didn’t even go to the bathroom.

And I needed to go.
