Show Notes:

Every heard of tarketing?

Apparently we have!

That’ll be the newest and hottest hashtag on Twitter soon…be on the look out!

What is tarketing?

Target audience and marketing…which is really what we are talking about.

Why having a target audience is important to your marketing.

If you are aiming at everyone you are ultimately aiming at no one.” -Kenny Lange

If you don’t know where you are aiming, you don’t have a great chance of sticking the landing and attracting qualified leads.

Start with at least a vague idea about who your content is for, and over time you will become more specific and more targeted.

Narrowing your niche down to a more specific group of people or group of businesses does not mean you cannot take on someone who is outside of those perameters.

As long as you are able to fulfill their need and request, and they are a good fit for your business to partner with, by all means work with them — it just means that not every business within their field are part of your niche.

Start with one thing that you can do well and figure out who would best benefit from that service(s).

Over time as you grow and accumulate different customers you will figure out who you click with and who you do not, and what type of businesses you can really engage with and bring benefit to.

It is less about right and wrong, and more about fit.

Down the road as you grow and even change the scope of services you offer, your fit will change as well.

If you already have customers in the area you have decided is your target audience, ask them for more details.

Areas of need, goals, pain points, and how you could help bring more benefit to their business — this will help when you go to market t0 other companies within the same bracket.

Start researching!

Look up the jargon and needs of certain industries that you are targeting to gain a better understanding of their world and how your business would fit in it.

Remember, everything is test and trial.

If something does not work, get up, and try again.

Marketing is an ever changing world, and you have to learn to adapt with it.

Destroy the lie that there is one right niche, or one right way to do it.

You’re going to get stuff wrong — but you have to figure out what is uniquely right for you and your business.

And last but not least…just do it!

Just start, and you will find yourself ahead of your competition.
